SEEDS....FOOD...GARLIC...IT'S A LICORICE ALL SORTS WEEK........

WHAT'S THE PHOTO GOT TO DO WITH GARLIC.....NOT MUCH BUT IT MAKES ME  FEEL COOL AND CALM LOOKING AT IT......

It's been hot, hot, hot. Very unusual for the Southern Highlands..... I finally got to drag out the summer wardrobe and do my seasonal re-arranging. Putting big coats away (which will probably come back out next week) and trying on stuff to see if...

                            a) it still fits

                            b) what was I thinking when I bought that.

Shoes and clothes are beautifully put away.....co-ordinated and before you say anything, this will only last a week. 

This brings me to lists. Are you a list person? I have multiple ones all around the place...Office, kitchen, garden and there is even a list for my husband which goes on the fridge. (so he doesn't feel left out)

With the warmer weather plants are now bolting to seed.......

Quick bolters - Lettuce, Coriander, Parsley

LET THEM! 

FREE PLANTS! 

I find that plants, especially coriander are a lot more robust and slower......I know, weird, to bolt to seed next time around. Try it and see!

Time to snip the top off some of those Oriental Poppies. Dry and save for next season. When it's time, sprinkle around where you want them to grow....(they hate being transplanted)

 Heat proof the vegetable garden, with this fabbo product that I swear by.....GoGo Juice by Neutrog. When I used to work at Sharpes Nursery I would sell this stuff by the truckload, people just kept coming back for more. Do you know why..... it worked and it's organic. I put this on my roses for extra ooomph and it also helps plants in the veggie garden withstand heat stress. We had 38 degrees the other day, not a single sad face amongst that lot.

Garlic is now being harvested...this is the first cab off the rank! Nothing like fresh YOUNG garlic.

A few nights ago we were invited to drinks "under the trees" .... I offered to help out and "bring a plate of something" ...the request was for something along the lines of mediterranean, normally right up my alley, but I was so busy sorting out the epic wardrobe reshuffle, that I only had 20 minutes to spare. So there I am standing in front of the fridge desperately looking for something to leap out and jump on to a plate. 

Here we have it....cubed watermelon....tiny bits of feta..tooth picked on and some dried mint sprinkled over the top. Refreshing....Greek....and we arrived on time and I even had time to take a pic of it!

Handy Hint: Speedy dried mint - place on a paper towel and cover with an extra bit of towel, microwave on low for a few minutes. Punchier than fresh mint.

As you know I have been busy planting succulents in various pots around the place, so I'm not a slave to watering during Summer. Still, I do love my colour.....Zinnias. Orange and lemon coloured ones were my pick. They are drought hardy and any Greek person worth their salt has some of these in their garden.
