Each year Vivid Sydney Festival http://www.vividsydney.com/events/categories/light just gets bigger, better and busier. It is a mecca for photographers........ I have never seen so many tripods in my life. Don't worry there were iphones, ipads and baby cameras galore.
We caught the train in, as was advised and what a breeze that was, not having to worry about parking or traffic. Martin Place had some fantastic new installations and was buzzing. Pop up bars, food stalls, and of course, clever interactive "light art sculptures". The entire MLC building sprouts before your very eyes and turns into a living tree.
e|MERGEnce is the giant multi faceted head.....queue up, and have your face scanned, it is then projected on to the head for everyone to see.
Everything is lit up and the colours are always changing.
The Opera House was just one big mesmerising palate and explosion of colour and stories that we enjoyed over a nice glass of red at the Opera House Bar.
Believe me there was a lot more colour action on the Opera House these were just a few.
Lots of people about.....and this is on a Monday night! I felt like I was somewhere in Europe! More of this please whoever organises events for Sydney.
Is this one of the best things to take your children to? YES! A Strictly Ballroom dance floor that plays "Love is in the air" and the kids just went nuts. Jumping discs to jump up and down on.....oh look! Who is that big kid.......? Vivid is for all ages, that's what is so good about this Festival.
One of my favourites each year is Customs House at Circular Quay. A 3D-mapped projection transforms the façade into a series of massive ‘musical sculptures’. Each of these ‘sculptures’ depicts a family of musical instruments which you can ‘play’ in real time. Take your place on a podium in front of festival-goers and create a visual and sonic masterpiece on the face of this iconic Sydney edifice.
We are enjoying another glass of red at the pop up bar and a wagyu burger.
Dont be fooled by the empty space in front of the building all the people are just behind me!
Next year I am going to get on that podium. Last year I got to dance with the Customs Building.
Sydney Harbour has to be one of the best harbours in the world but when Vivid comes to town....... it goes to the next realm. The giant bunnies, the glowing ferries, the rippling lights on the water.............
Take the kids, grandparents, husband, wife, anyone..... just go! Its a must see event! It is on till the 9th June and again I have only shown you a teaser of what's there. Have a look on the website for all other locations.
Let me know what you saw!
