WHEN DOES A HOME STOP BEING YOUR HOME...
Pretty much when all the furniture and your precious items get packed into boxes, all those things that make your home, you.
I looked at the outside table all folded up, and remembered the many lunches and breakfasts in the garden....
I looked at the empty room, where our dining table held so many gatherings, where we laughed and debated with family and friends. But in the end, if you look at it simplistically, it's just furniture, that you can transport to a new location, and guess what..... new memories are made.
Do you know what? I actually love the unpacking process.
Yes, call me the crazy lady, but I do!
As each thing gets unpacked and put into it's new place.....well it kinda looks different....fresher looking, the light hits it a different way, you try different looks (drive your husband crazy in the process). You probably try things you would never have tried. It helps that Arth and I think alike, we have to have everything in it's place ......like, yesterday.
We are a frenzied team with one thing in mind get it looking like our home!
Remember that metal bowl out in the garden that used to freeze up in winter....and I might add, when we had the pizza oven we used to cook many things in that bowl. Multipurpose!
It's now residing inside the house with some fresh green succulents planted into it....and that blue pressed metal table that used to be on our other verandah, is now inside looking pretty good next to the yellow lounge.
Do you get joy and excitement redecorating?
Agave "pups" snipped off and put in a metal bucket of water..... I didn't even have to pot these up and they will last for ages and ages.
I am embracing greenery in the house, I'm sure it's because it feels warmer in our new home (haven't lit the fire once) I want a sort of tropical feel, not Byron Bay tropical, because it's not that sort of house but an in between look. I still have tons of flowers in vases but I think green plants are restful and pull a room together.
Talking about fires....our old wood basket, flipped upside down, has now become a side table of sorts. Might need it next winter but for the time being it has a new job. I'm determined not to buy any more furniture...moving does that to you.
This buddha used to hide under a tree in our old garden but now he's on the verandah looking very serene.
Things that were tucked away in cupboards are now on display in our butlers pantry. Never had one of those before! Where is that butler by the way!
Chairs that were in bedrooms are now in cosy corners in the lounge area.
The birdbath has now become Pierres drinking bowl......even though his real bowl is just around the corner.
Wooden chooks are happy in their new spot....
The folded up table which looked a bit sad is now in it's new spot.....
And do you know what......it all feels right....a home is what you make of it, as long as love and thought is put into it.
PS After the moving event I swore I wouldn't buy another thing for the house but I did sneak a few cushions past Arth....
Have you moved recently and did you go into a decorating and nesting frenzy?
