COME VISIT MY GARDEN

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN STRAWBERRIES

Who's a fan of farm gate produce!!

How could you not be.....you get to drive up a little country driveway and if you are lucky the farmers are there and a good chinwag ensues. You see EXACTLY where your produce is coming from....and it's fresh. And for those of you that don't live in the country .....how about you visit your local farmers marke, they have sprung up everywhere.....farm gate that comes to you. We have a fantastic one in Kiama....Kiama Farmers Market, right next to the beach. There's music, kids games ....it just has the best atmosphere - link here.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN STRAWBERRIES

I've been so busy with life.....work ...... jam making was pretty much last on the list. Because this is such an easy one I knocked this up in no time at all. Recipe here.

Another thing I like to do when strawberries are in season....

Hull some strawberries, line a tray with baking paper and pop in the freezer.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN STRAWBERRIES

Frozen and separated...... no gooey big chunks.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN STRAWBERRIES

Pop them in zip lock bags and tomorrow morning it's banana and frozen strawberry smoothie.

I also do this with bananas when they decide to ripen all at once.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN STRAWBERRIES

Found an old container that I used as an ice bucket.....now a new home for some strawberry plants. These were runners that I transplanted and nursed from our previous garden.

LOOK less than a month later a strawberry.

What we started with....

And now.....

This has turned into a productive little area.... I am actually picking whole lettuces...even gave one as a hostess gift instead of flowers.

And water views....

It's funny how easily you forget what you started with.... it's not until you flick through the before shots that you realise what a difference a garden makes.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN vegebles

See this little area under our frangipani, I have seeded rocket in amongst the flowers and they are up and running.

Mix it up....

From my kitchen window I look out onto this view.....it has an old old orange tree that has seen better days and I can't bring myself to give it a girl prune. So instead I am letting the grass grow long.....

And have scattered these.....

Not too sure how it's going to look, in my head it will be this romantic mini meadow of swaying grass and flowers. We will see....

OK... I'm now allowed some bragging rights.....

Exactly one month later....

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN vegebles

I cannot begin to tell you the satisfaction we get from a vegetable garden.

Each morning we pop out and visit our patch with a cup of tea and coffee....checking for bugs, marvelling at how fast everything grows.....the most peaceful time of the day.

A YEAR IN MY GARDEN ORANGES

Some oranges not quite so nice....
