My girls have been busy laying their feathery butts off!
There's nothing like collecting eggs that are still warm, throwing them into saucepan for a few minutes, cracking the top off and then dipping into that creamy, runny (I like mine runny) bright orange yolk. mmmm!
I have to say though my girls are SPOILT! They always get the kitchen veggie scraps, organic layer pellets, if I find the odd snail, that gets thrown in, I love watching them go nuts with that treat. I also give them a very tasty scratch mix (think gourmet dinner) at the end of the day and of course they have to have a free range in the afternoon. You might ask why not all day? Three reasons. The First, they would scratch my garden to bits and I like a neat garden. Second, laying eggs throughout the garden would reduce our egg collection, they always lay in the morning. Thirdly, for some reason when they are out all day they end up really doing the miles, across the road, on the road, next doors paddock and rounding them up becomes an epic exercise. So we have a routine! It works and everyone is happy.
Are you a chook lover? Do you have a routine for your girls? Are you planning on getting any?
